The 2024 BBC Proms programme promises a captivating lineup of performances by renowned conductors and orchestras, showcasing the diversity and excellence of classical music. This year’s exciting performances include three distinguished VBPR clients: the Hallé Orchestra under Sir Mark Elder; Music Director of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Vasily Petrenko; and Chief Conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Sakari Oramo.
Prom 4 on Sunday 21 July will feature the Hallé Orchestra and Chorus, conducted by Sir Mark Elder, in a special tribute to his 24-year tenure as Music Director. The programme includes Sir James MacMillan’s Timotheus, Bacchus and Cecilia, followed by Mahler's monumental Symphony No.5.
On Thursday 1 August, Prom 17 will feature Vasily Petrenko conducting the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in a performance of Tchaikovsky’s symphonic fantasy Francesca da Rimini, together with Debussy’s Nocturnes, Ives’s Three Places in New England, and Ravel’s jazz-inspired Piano Concerto in G major featuring soloist Denis Kozhukhin.
Sakari Oramo will conduct four performances during this year's BBC Proms. Prom 19 on Saturday 3 August will feature Elgar's Cello Concerto in E minor, Jonathan Harvey’s Tranquil Abiding, and Holst’s The Cloud Messenger with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, contralto Jess Dandy and cellist Senja Rummukainen.
Prom 27 on Friday 9 August 9 presents Strauss's An Alpine Symphony, Kaija Saariaho’s Mirage, and Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 9 in E flat major, with soprano Silja Aalto, cellist Anssi Karttunen, and pianist Seong-Jin Cho.
Prom 46 on Sunday 25 August includes Holst's The Planets, Sibelius’s The Wood Nymph, and the world premiere of Laulut maaseudulta (Songs from the Countryside) by Lara Poe, performed by students from the Royal College of Music and Sibelius Academy, with soprano Anu Komsi.
Finally, Sakari will conclude the BBC Proms 2024 season by conducting the Last Night of the Proms on Saturday 14 September, featuring the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, the BBC Singers, soprano Angel Blue and pianist Sir Stephen Hough.
