The Norwegian National Opera & Ballet is Norway’s largest performing arts institution with over 300 performances each year. It consists of the companies the Norwegian National Ballet and the Norwegian National Opera, in addition to the Norwegian National Opera Orchestra, the Norwegian National Opera Chorus, the Norwegian National Opera Children’s Chorus and the Norwegian National Ballet School. The companies are run by artistic director of opera, Randi Stene, artistic director of ballet, Ingrid Lorentzen, and musical director Edward Gardner.
The opera house in Oslo, Bjørvika is designed by Snøhetta, and as the first opera house in the world to let visitors walk on the roof, it has become a landmark of the capital. The organisation has over 600 employees working in about 40 professions and trades.
