15 OCTOBER 2020 – Dalia Stasevska has been nominated for the Royal Philharmonic Society’s 2020 Conductor Award, announced last night on BBC Radio 3’s In Tune. The nominations were made by members of the society and the classical music industry. Other nominees in the category are Martyn Brabbins and Jonathon Heyward and the winners of the 2020 RPS Awards will be announced at 7pm on Wednesday 18 November 2020 in a digital presentation on the RPS Awards’ website.
As Principal Guest Conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Dalia Stasevska will conduct the orchestra’s 90th birthday celebrations on 22 October 2020. The concert marks 90 years to the day since the orchestra was founded by Adrian Boult and will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 from Maida Vale Studios. The programme features Finnish and British music, inspired by the BBC Symphony Orchestra’s first international tour to Scandinavia in 1956. Sibelius’ Scènes historiques weaves throughout the programme, and framing the broadcast are performances from the orchestra’s 80th anniversary concert at the Barbican in 2010.
Dalia Stasevska returns to the BBC Symphony Orchestra on 13 December 2020 joined by Physicist Professor Brian Cox to explore music and the cosmos. Stasevska conducts the third movement of Sibelius’s Symphony No.5 arranged by Iain Farrington, Ives’ The Unanswered Question, and the first movement of Mahler’s Symphony No.10, arranged by Michelle Castelletti. This concert will be open to a limited live audience and will also be available to watch online.
