“It was altogether a wonderful performance which thrilled the audience, aware they were witnessing a star in the making,” The Daily Telegraph, March 2016
In 2020, violinist Esther Yoo is set to return to the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Philharmonia Orchestra, as well as make her debut with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. This month she was named as one of WQXR’s ’20 for 20’ Artists to Watch for the Upcoming Year, and she was also recently listed as one of Classic FM’s Top 30 Artists under 30. Described as ‘a star in the making’ by The Daily Telegraph, Yoo was the first ever artist-in-residence with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in 2018. She records for Deutsche Grammophon and has released two concerto albums with the Philharmonia Orchestra on the label, as well as an album with her trio, the Z.E.N. Trio.
Esther Yoo will perform Bruch’s Violin Concerto in G minor with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and Carlos Miguel Prieto at St David’s Hall in Cardiff (9 February 2020), and will join the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Thierry Fischer on 10 & 12 March to perform Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto at London’s Royal Festival Hall and Hull’s City Hall.
She returns to the Royal Festival Hall on 14 May to collaborate once again with the Philharmonia Orchestra performing Barber’s Violin Concerto under the baton of Joana Carneiro, and they will also perform together in Cambridge and Canterbury (7 & 8 May). Making her debut with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and Vasily Petrenko on 14 June, Yoo will perform Glazunov’s Violin Concerto which she recorded in 2016 with the Philharmonia. Gramophone Magazine described her recording as ‘[performed with] great affection and… crusading zeal’.
